Elephant Rescue!

I saw this video today about a group saving a baby elephant who was trapped in a well, and it immediately reminded me of Ruby in The One and Only Ivan.

Rocks in our Community

We went on a walk around town and photographed some of the rocks we noticed that were being used in our community - in roads, landscaping, and buildings.
Here is a video of what we found!

Felix's Lego Jump

Wow! Yesterday Felix Baumgartner jumped from the edge of space - millions of people watched the video, and our class watched it today.
We loved the Lego tribute to Felix that was posted today!

Kinderkid Buddy Reading

Each week, the Grade Threes meet up with the students from the Kindergarten class to read together. The Grade Three students read and ask the Kinderkids about the stories they read. It's always a fun time for both classes!

Ivan, Ruby, Stella, and Bob

We are well into our novel, The One and Only Ivan, and it is fantastic!
The author, Katherine Applegate, has written a story from the point of view of Ivan, a gorilla living in captivity in a mall. By telling the story from Ivan's point of view, we are learning much more about animals, and the lives they lead in captivity or in the wild.

If you could save one of the characters, Ivan, Stella, Bob, or Ruby, which one would you save?

You will have to think about what the word "save" means. Does it mean sending them back to the wild? To a zoo? To allow them to roam the mall freely?
What do you think?

Gettin' Down and Dirty!

Today we were getting our hands dirty in science class, becoming soil detectives! The kids were making observations on the colours, smells, textures, and organisms in the soil.
This week and next we will talk more about soil and the important role it plays in our lives.

Why do you think soil is important in your life?
